About the Role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Research Scientist to join our interdisciplinary team at the John Innes Centre. The successful candidate will investigate the complex plant signaling networks that govern endosymbiotic interactions between soil microbes and crops.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Characterize a novel plant signaling mechanism that enables nitrogen-fixing rhizobia to successfully colonize root nodules.
  • Develop and apply advanced techniques in cell biology and proteomics to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying root nodule symbiosis.
  • Collaborate with international team members to design and implement experiments, and analyze data to draw conclusions.
  • Assist in the supervision of students, deliver seminars, and contribute to the writing up of research findings.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Plant Molecular Biology, Plant Cell Biology, or Plant Biochemistry.
  • Experience with standard molecular biology techniques, statistical and/or bioinformatics analyses, and advanced confocal microscopy techniques.
  • Strong motivation for curiosity-driven science and a collaborative mindset to work effectively within a collegial, multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
