About the Role

The Ministry of Defence is seeking a skilled and dedicated individual to fill the role of Regimental Careers Management Officer. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for providing HR management support to the Corps of Royal Engineers, focusing on the career development and progression of its most capable instructors.

With a strong understanding of Human Resource management and the IT applications used by the Army, you will play a central role in shaping the careers of these exceptional individuals. Your expertise will be essential in managing the inflow and outflow of soldiers, overseeing reporting activity, and providing career advice to soldiers and line managers.

The successful candidate will be required to attend and pass the Regimental Careers Management Officer course within 3 months of undertaking the post. This is a 5-day residential course at the Army Personnel Centre (Glasgow).

As a Regimental Careers Management Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing the HR management of 367 military personnel. Primarily, this involves careful oversight of reporting procedures, acting as the secretary for promotion and grading boards, managing the regular inflow and outflow of military personnel, providing career advice to soldiers and line managers, and acting as the focal-point for resettlement activity.

The main areas of responsibility include:
  • Act as the principal advisor to the Commanding Officer on all aspects of soldier career management, including annual appraisal reporting and internal grading boards.
  • Provide career management support and advice to soldiers, including Regular and Reserve personnel.
  • Facilitate applications for internal transfers using MOD HR applications.
  • Develop and manage the Unit Retention Plan to retain talent within the organisation.
  • Act as the Unit Career Manager focal point for the Army Personnel Centre.
  • Act as a focal point for all reporting and HR referrals through the Army Personnel Centre for all new arrivals to the Regiment.
  • Contribute to Unit workforce planning and manage the Unit Establishment Table (personnel management tool).
  • Unit focus for professional and personal development advice on soldier education and vocational accreditation.
  • Carry out the responsibilities of the Unit Briefing Officer (UBO), relating to the resettlement of personnel leaving the Army.
  • Act as the Station Champion for HR/People Management, ensuring good practice across all units and offering advice on matters as they arise.

The successful candidate will be a diligent and self-motivated individual, with a strong commitment to teamwork and interpersonal skills. They will be capable of working independently and will have a clear focus on outcomes.

Benefits

The post offers a competitive salary of £35,290, with the Ministry of Defence contributing £10,223 towards a Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. The Army prides itself on being a supportive employer, encouraging flexible working and helping employees maintain a great work-life balance.

The role is advertised at 37 hours per week. Due to the nature of the role, there is an expectation for the successful candidate to be in office full-time (5 days a week), with the ability to work remotely as and when required.

The successful candidate will be required to attend and pass the Regimental Careers Management Officer course within 3 months of undertaking the post. This is a 5-day residential course at the Army Personnel Centre (Glasgow).
