About the Role

You will be the technical lead of a team of software engineers, responsible for the design, development, and operations of high-throughput pipelines necessary to support scientists worldwide by ingesting, processing, persisting, and distributing large volumes of sequence data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and operate high-throughput pipelines
  • Work with ENA's development and operational teams, EBI's IT and Technical services teams, and the International Nucleotide Sequence Database Collaboration (INSDC)
  • Shape the development team and set up and oversee development processes

Requirements

  • At least 12 years of professional experience with a track record of leading complex projects from conception to delivery
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on delivering scalable, high-performance solutions
  • Experience with setting up and running development teams
  • Experience with modern software development practices, including continuous integration and deployment, application of various software testing principles, processes, and tools, system monitoring
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team with a range of skills and backgrounds

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary scientific environment
  • Familiarity with sequence data and sequence data formats (incl. FASTQ, BAM, CRAM, SRA)
