About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Clinical Pharmacist to join our team at Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, providing clinical pharmacy services to patients in our prisons. As a Clinical Pharmacist in Prisons, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective use of medicines within our secure environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organise and provide clinical pharmacy services to patients in our allocated prisons, working closely with our pharmacy technicians and assistants.
  • Manage the day-to-day work of the pharmacy technicians, supporting them clinically when on site.
  • Implement the prison formulary, collaborating with primary care colleagues to ensure safe and effective prescribing practices.
  • Generate monthly reports on drug expenditure and advise prescribers on areas for improvement and efficiencies.
  • Provide clinical screening and final accuracy checks when working in the dispensary.
  • Manage your own time efficiently while on prison visits, undertaking scheduled clinical visits to review medication histories, provide clinics for patients, and monitor prescribing trends.
  • Be an active member of the clinical governance/medicines management committee, working closely with primary care providers to ensure safe prescribing, use, storage, and transport of medicines within our secure environments.
  • Train nursing staff in the use of Patient Group Directions (PGDs) and monitor their use on an ongoing basis, reporting any discrepancies to the senior pharmacist prison services.

Person Specification
  • Masters Degree of Pharmacy or equivalent.
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council of GB (GPhC).
  • Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent (or working towards).
  • Previous prison/hospital/community pharmacy experience in the UK.
  • Experience of providing clinical pharmacy services.
  • At least 2 years experience post registration of providing clinical services within prisons or hospitals.
