Prison Services Clinical Pharmacist

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Clinical Pharmacist to join our team at Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, providing clinical pharmacy services to patients in our prisons. As a Clinical Pharmacist in Prisons, you will be responsible for providing high-quality clinical pharmacy services, including medication management, clinical screening, and final accuracy checks.
Key Responsibilities- Organise and plan the pharmacy clinical service provision to allocated prisons, ensuring timely delivery of services.
- Provide clinical services to patients in allocated prisons, including medication reviews, MURs, and clinical clinics.
- Ensure high standards of work, both clinical and dispensing, and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) as directed by the Lead Prison Services Pharmacist.
- Work collaboratively with pharmacy technicians and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to patients.
- Implement the prison formulary, in collaboration with primary care colleagues, to ensure safe and effective prescribing practices.
- Generate monthly reports on drug expenditure for allocated prisons and advise prescribers on areas for improvement and efficiencies.
- Participate in clinical governance/medicines management committees to monitor prescribing trends and provide advice on improving prescribing practices.
- Train and educate nursing staff in the use of medicines and Patient Group Directions (PGDs) to ensure safe and secure prescribing and handling of medicines.
- Undertake scheduled clinical visits to allocated prisons, providing clinical services, including MURs, medication reviews, and clinical clinics.
- Monitor prescribing trends and provide advice to healthcare staff to improve prescribing practices in line with formulary choices and current clinical thinking.
- Work closely with primary care providers to ensure safe prescribing, use, storage, and transport of medicines within secure environments.
- Liaise with the Specialist Prison Services Pharmacist to assist in writing PGDs and monitor use/compliance on an ongoing basis.
