About the Role

We are looking for a highly experienced Data Protection Lead to join our team in Edinburgh/Hybrid. As a key member of our Information Governance team, you will be responsible for leading the response to information rights requests and ensuring that SFC complies with relevant legislation.

In this role, you will work closely with colleagues across SFC to provide guidance on information rights and data protection compliance. You will also be responsible for developing and maintaining SFC's Records of Processing Activities (RoPA), promoting an information governance culture within the organisation, and identifying opportunities for improvement.

A strong understanding of the legal and regulatory landscape of information governance is essential for this role. You will need to have excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience of drafting reports, policies, procedures, communications to staff, and responses to information rights requests.

The estimated salary for this position is £46,392 - 54,003 per annum, depending on experience. If you are passionate about data protection and information governance, we encourage you to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the response to information rights requests, providing advice to colleagues across SFC, ensuring legal compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Providing an efficient and effective senior contact point for queries in relation to information rights and data protection, including complex ones.
  • Ensuring staff fully understand their responsibilities within data protection legislation and information rights and follow relevant processes, evidenced through reporting and auditing.
  • Promoting an information governance culture and an understanding of data protection compliance throughout the organisation.
  • Developing and maintaining SFC's Records of Processing Activities (RoPA) to ensure that it is accurate and regularly reviewed and information asset owners understand their responsibilities.
  • Coordinating with Information Governance colleagues, assessing and responding to personal data breaches, including reporting to senior management and the ICO as required.
  • Identifying and implementing improvements to data protection and information rights compliance based on user requirements and best practice.
  • Monitoring SFC's compliance with the UK GDPR and other data protection laws and with our data protection policies, raising awareness of data protection issues, training staff, and conducting audits.
