About Our Team

AECOM's Water team is seeking civil and coastal engineering students to join their team for a summer or longer-term industrial placement. Our team of water specialists works globally to find innovative solutions for water management projects across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Our coastal team has a strong track record in delivering coastal policy, management, and design projects both within the UK and internationally. We work on various projects, including coastal frameworks and private sector clients.

Job Responsibilities

You will work alongside our experienced engineers to develop your skills in the following areas:

  • Undertake numerical analysis using computer-based programs to study potable, surface, and wastewater systems
  • Conduct technical and feasibility studies to evaluate the practicability of alternative solutions in areas such as potable water, foul water, surface water, and attenuation requirements
  • Perform structural analysis and design, including determining design situations and load cases, and using analysis software
  • Produce designs for water infrastructure, such as pump systems and pipe networks, with safety in design considerations
  • Produce sketches, check, and consolidate final working drawings created by technicians
  • Stay up-to-date with developments in regulatory legislation and guidelines that may affect design work
  • Collaborate with other team members to undertake technical work, site work, and project management
  • Opportunities for working on site and site visits to develop a wider understanding of how designs are implemented
Requirements

To be considered for this opportunity, you should:

  • Be studying towards a BEng in Civil or Civil and Environmental Engineering Degree
  • Have water-related modules as an advantage
  • Be enthusiastic, hard-working, technically proficient, with ambition and drive
  • Have basic computer skills (Word/Excel) and good report writing skills
  • Demonstrate a demonstrable interest in water engineering
  • Communicate effectively to internal and external clients, both verbally and in writing
  • Structure and prioritize work effectively through close cooperation with the team
  • Be able to work independently without losing initiative and focus
