We're looking for a skilled In Service Support Technician to join our Central Engineering team in Birmingham. In this role, you'll be responsible for providing technical expertise and support to ensure the successful delivery of services to our customer.

Your main tasks will include:

  • Safe and Effective Work: Ensure all work is performed in accordance with relevant Health & Safety regulations, Railway Group Standards, and ALSTOM procedures.
  • Troubleshooting and Technical Support: Provide technical telephone support to drivers and assist with customer issues.
  • Fleet Monitoring: Continuously monitor units in service using Fleet Monitor tracking system.
  • Technical Assistance: Offer fault finding expertise and assistance with train repair activities to depot teams.
  • Fault Analysis and Reporting: Detailed recording of faults, fault reporting, data gathering, and verbal communication.
  • Investigating Intermittent Faults: Carry out fault finding and investigate intermittent faults on vehicles in service.
  • Repeat Failure Management: Control and monitor repeat failures of units.
  • Organisation and Control: Organise and control all aspects of failures in service.
  • Liaising with Production Manager: Liaise with the on-duty Production Manager to determine rescue plans for failed units and subsequent replacement units.
  • Assistance to Failed Units: Attend and assist failed units in service.
  • Reliability Improvement: Contribute to increasing rolling stock reliability and preventing anomalies in commercial services.
  • On-Train Fault Diagnosis: Provide on-train fault diagnosis and rectification for units in service.
  • Investigating Technical Problems: Investigate technical problems as instructed by the project support engineering team.
  • Data Gathering: Gather required data downloads on critical performance systems.
  • Test Runs: Undertake test runs to assist in fault finding and resolution of faults.
  • Special Checks and Experiments: Provide technical support in connection with special checks and experiments.
  • Liaising with Systems Support Engineers: Liaise with systems support engineers and specialist engineers as necessary.
  • Carrying Out Duties: Carry out all duties in accordance with Train Care Centre quality and safety procedures.
  • Warranty Engineer Support: Assist the Warranty Engineer in the execution of his responsibilities.
  • Driving Company Vehicle: Where necessary drive the company vehicle to attend outstations or to attend failed units.

  • Electrical Based NVQ Level 3: Electrical based NVQ Level 3 in rolling stock or aircraft.
  • Practical Experience: Practical experience and a sound knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic engineering aspects of modern Electric Multiple Units.
  • IT Skills: IT skills – competent user of Personal Computer, including office packages, email, and intranet.
  • Technical Experience: Technical experience and strong knowledge in mechanical and electrical engineering.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Flexibility and adaptability – enjoys variety in work practices, opinions, and approaches.
  • Self-Motivation: Self-motivation – carries out, using own initiative, activities that add value to the job.
