Job Overview

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a high level of clinical expertise and leadership skills. As a Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining clinical practice knowledge and skills, and supporting staff in the development of their knowledge and skills.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain clinical practice knowledge and skills
  • Support staff in the development of their knowledge and skills
  • Provide expert clinical knowledge and facilitation of physiological birth and extended maternity skills
  • Responsible for the preceptorship of band 5 midwives and support to student midwives within the clinical workplace
  • Analyse and assess complex midwifery problems that require investigation
  • Facilitate learning opportunities in support of the care of women with complex needs in partnership with the multidisciplinary team
  • Develop and implement individualised learning plans using sound judgement, which meet staff objectives
  • Provide feedback to individuals and clinical managers as required
  • Risk assess and report any concerns in practice and escalate to midwifery managers, SOM and medical staff
  • Take appropriate action in emergency situations and decide on the best course of action/treatment according to local policy
