London, Greater London, United Kingdom Neonatal Network South East Full time

At Neonatal Network South East, we are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our team as a Neonatal Occupational Therapist - Developmental Care Specialist.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment and contribute to the development of our neonatal services. As a Neonatal Occupational Therapist, you will be responsible for providing expert care to high-risk infants and their families, ensuring a smooth transition from the neonatal unit to home and community.

You will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to promote a neuro-protective developmental care environment, minimizing the potential harm of the neonatal unit environment on the infant's developing brain.

Your expertise will also be valuable in supporting parents to feel confident and competent in reading their infant's neurobehavioural cues and using strategies to support their infant's development and regulation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert occupational therapy interventions to support infant occupations such as sleeping, feeding, daily cares, and interaction.
  • Support both infants and parents in the provision of non-pharmacological pain management during painful and stressful caregiving procedures.
  • Advise on positioning for optimal neurobehavioural regulation.
  • Promote sleep protection.
  • Provide regulatory strategies for positive feeding experiences.
  • Provide specialist equipment where necessary.

You will work closely with the neonatal team to develop individualized care plans that support the infant's growth and development, promoting early engagement with their parents, including co-occupations such as nurturing touch and the introduction of feeding, bathing, and handling.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A university degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Experience working in paediatric practice, particularly in neonatology.
  • Knowledge of infant/early childhood development.
  • An understanding of neuro-protective developmental care principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Salary and Benefits

The salary for this role is £43,877 per annum, rising to £56,767 after 12 months.

We offer a range of benefits, including:

  • Generous annual leave entitlement.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Opportunities for professional development and training.
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme.
