About the Role:

As an SEN TA, you will work closely with the SENCO and teaching staff to provide tailored support for children with diverse needs. Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to students with special educational needs, helping them to access the curriculum effectively.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to meet each student's unique learning needs.
  • Supporting students with a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, and other learning and emotional difficulties.
  • Working collaboratively with class teachers and the SENCO to create an inclusive, supportive classroom environment.
  • Using a variety of strategies and resources to support students' learning and encourage positive behavior.
  • Monitoring and documenting students' progress, providing feedback to teachers and supporting assessments.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with special educational needs, ideally within a school setting.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with additional needs.
  • Strong communication skills to build effective relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to use positive behavior management techniques to support students in a compassionate way.
  • A commitment to promoting the welfare and safeguarding of children.

Desirable Skills:

  • Relevant SEN qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Supporting Teaching and Learning or SEN-specific training).
  • Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or other communication tools beneficial for students with SEN.
  • Experience with assistive technology and other resources to support SEN students' learning.
  • Understanding of a range of SEN needs, including autism spectrum conditions, speech and language difficulties, and sensory needs.
