Job Purpose

Carnell Support Services Limited is seeking a skilled Quantity Surveyor to support our team in Leyland. The successful candidate will report to and be supported by the Managing QS. We are looking for someone with a minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role, with a strong understanding of Civil Engineering and Highways.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and submit quotations for works on maintenance contracts, ensuring accurate pricing and submission.
  • Liaise with operational staff, including clients and subcontractors, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Verify scheme costs on the cost system (Nav13) and raise any queries where necessary, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Attend internal and external meetings, both electronically and face-to-face, to discuss project progress and requirements.
  • Manage the subcontract supply chain, issuing orders, assessing subcontract AFPs, and processing payments, ensuring timely and efficient delivery.
  • Conduct regular reconciliation of cost and value through a monthly CVR process, identifying and addressing any discrepancies.
  • Assess and submit quotations and compensation events, ensuring compliance with NEC3/4 and framework requirements.
Requirements
  • Surveying degree or equivalent qualification/experience.
  • Experience working as a Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractor.
  • Experience with NEC3/4 and working on frameworks.
  • Proficiency in digital systems, particularly Microsoft.
  • Demonstrable record of supporting the commercial team in managing complex, high-value contracts.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Excel and Word.
Person Specification
  • Excellent ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Enthusiastic and willing to take ownership of contracts/frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with proven time management abilities.
  • High levels of numeracy, written language, and communication.
  • Full UK clean driving licence.
  • Awareness of NEC 4 contracts and options is desirable.
  • High level of attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
  • Ability to analyse data and provide detailed reports.
