About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Life Insurance Underwriter to join our team at Legal & General. As a Life Medical Underwriter, you will play a critical role in reviewing customer applications to assess risk factors and determine whether we can offer Life, Critical Illness Cover, and Income Protection policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately assess and document life and disability risks by reviewing applications and deciding which terms, if any, can be offered based on your autonomy level.
  • Participate in or lead projects to enhance the underwriting process and improve our systems and commercial viability.
  • Ensure any requests for further information are appropriate and accurate, and commensurate with the risk being assessed, to ensure the customer journey is not impacted unnecessarily.
  • Identify complaints and ensure they are acted upon quickly, and root causes are highlighted to ensure compliance with complaints response time limits.
  • Take ownership of maintaining an excellent knowledge and understanding of legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Understand the commitments made about the level of service during the marketing and sales processes to ensure the area is capable of meeting those expectations and that customers' reasonable expectations of performance and service are met.
  • Thoroughly understand the risk factors for mortality and morbidity, as well as financial underwriting.
  • Understand legislations and regulatory requirements.
