Job Title: Head of Commercial

VVB ENG is seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Commercial to lead and take full responsibility for all commercial aspects of our business. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be accountable for managing commercial risk and ensuring robust governance and reporting processes are in place.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead, develop, and build a high-performing commercial team.
  • Support the work winning team by identifying risks and managing accountabilities within tender packs and contractual terms.
  • Prepare, develop, and implement commercial strategies to support project success.
  • Identify and manage commercial risks on both new and existing contracts.
  • Ensure full compliance and performance of all contracts.
  • Design and implement effective contract management processes.
  • Negotiate contract agreements and address non-standard contractual issues.
  • Collaborate with Sector Managers to ensure projects exceed commercial targets.
  • Oversee the development and presentation of accurate Management Information.
Line Management Duties:
  • Review and ensure the competencies of all personnel within the department, ensuring suitable training, qualifications, and behaviours.
  • Create and manage a high-performing workforce within the commercial discipline.
  • Oversee timely delivery of key HR activities within the commercial team, including salary and bonus reviews, appraisals, talent management, and succession planning.
  • Strong knowledge of Construction law and standard forms of contract.
  • Strong understanding of financial management.
  • Proficient in MS Office packages including Excel, Project, and Word.
  • Experience with estimating software and packages.
Qualifications:
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
  • Valid CSCS card.
  • Full UK driver's license.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership and people management skills.
  • Ability to advise and educate stakeholders on commercial technical matters.
Experience:
  • Previous experience in a Senior Commercial Manager position.
  • Proven experience in client management and negotiation.
  • Experience in large MEP projects and within the M&E sector.
  • Experience working for a Tier 1 contractor.
