The University of Cambridge's Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (CFI) is seeking a part-time Software Engineer to contribute to a two-year project focused on developing a benchmark for measuring the ability of Artificial Intelligence (AI) agents on real-world data science tasks.

As an AI Benchmark Specialist, you will join the Kinds of Intelligence team at CFI, a multidisciplinary team comprising expertise in Computer Science, AI, cognitive science, and others. Your main duty will be creating the interface through which the AI agents interact with the tasks and helping with running experiments with baseline agents based on state-of-the-art Large Language Models (LLMs).

This role requires applicants to have, or about to obtain, an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a technical field including software engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence, and data science. You should be capable of working independently and in collaboration with others, possess strong programming skills preferably in Python, command of the Linux operating system, familiarity with version control systems, and experience with computing servers.

We expect the successful candidate to be motivated in line with the goals of CFI and desire to improve their research skills. This role is part time (0.2 FTE) and will be fixed term until September 2026.

We estimate the salary for this role to be around £25,000 - £35,000 per year, depending on experience. The closing date for applications is not specified, but interviews are planned for the week commencing 20 January 2025, subject to change.
