About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Lawyer to join our team at Barclays. As a key member of our Sustainability agenda, you will provide strategic legal advice and input on the development and implementation of our ESG initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal support to our business teams across the organization, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of ESG trends, risks, and opportunities, and advise on new and evolving technical areas of law.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify and mitigate risks, and develop strategies to enhance our ESG performance.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of risk data to identify trends, patterns, and outliers, and assess the impact of risk exposures.
  • Develop and implement risk reporting improvements and automation initiatives to enhance our risk management capabilities.
  • Manage and mitigate risks through assessment, in support of our control and governance agenda.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating leadership and accountability for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work your team does.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an Advisory Lawyer with significant legal experience gained in-house or in a challenging private practice environment.
  • Subject matter expertise or significant interest and awareness in relation to the ESG agenda.
  • Ability to advise on new and evolving technical areas of law without established precedent.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and develop innovative solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders and external partners.
