Job Overview
Newcastle University is a leading institution in the field of software security, and we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced researcher to join our team as a Secure Software Development Researcher.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting high-quality research related to secure open-source software development and formal methods. This includes designing and developing theories and tools with solid foundations for secure open-source software development, protecting against software supply chain attacks, and presenting research results in written and oral form.

We are looking for an individual with strong conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills, who has the ability to plan work independently with minimal supervision and adhere to a time plan to meet deadlines. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable programming skills (preferably in functional languages, Rust or Java) and experience in tool development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct high-quality research related to secure open-source software development and formal methods.
  • Design and develop theories and tools with solid foundations for secure open-source software development.
  • Protect against software supply chain attacks.
  • Present research results in written and oral form.

  • Proven expertise in areas of security, formal methods, program analysis, and software engineering.
  • Experience in programming and tool development.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Salary and Benefits
The salary for this position is estimated to be £34,866 - £41,163 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
