Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Healthcare Support Worker to join our Paediatric Emergency Department team at York Hospital. This role is pivotal in providing exceptional patient care and supporting nursing staff in a fast-paced and busy environment.

Main Responsibilities

• Provide support to registered nurses in patient care, including performing observations and running diagnostic tests.
• Offer a level of assurance to families using the department with effective communication and support.
• Assist in ensuring all assurance checks are performed to maintain patient safety and cleanliness standards.

About the Role

This is a full-time position that requires a combination of shifts, including nights, weekends, and Bank Holidays. You will be expected to commit to our Full-Time HCSW Academy for the first 4 weeks of your employment. Please note that our HCSW Academy takes place at our training site in Holgate, York.

Person Specification

This role requires basic literacy and numeracy skills, with a willingness to undertake training. Preference will be given to candidates with NVQ/QCF Level 2 in a health-related subject. A detailed understanding of the role of a HCSW and awareness of what is important to a patient are essential. We also require good communication skills, basic IT skills, and the ability to work as part of a team.
