About the Role

University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Scientist to join our Radiation Protection Group. As a key member of the team, you will play a vital role in supporting the safe use of ionising and non-ionising radiation in our hospitals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the safe use of ionising and non-ionising radiation in our hospitals
  • Assess the safety requirements of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Carry out UV and X-ray equipment performance testing
  • Work with clinical staff on X-ray optimisation projects
  • Lead X-ray equipment performance testing and training
  • Audit safety and compliance with IRR, CAORWR, IRMER, and EPR regulations

Requirements

  • Good honours degree in a relevant subject or equivalent
  • HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist
  • Relevant MSc or equivalent
  • Proficient in the use of a PC and keyboard
  • Experience of operating X-ray and laser equipment
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use initiative to resolve problems
  • Logical thinker with ability to set objectives
  • Ability to use and develop software (including MS Office)
  • Ability to work in an emotionally distressing clinical environment
  • Ability to relate to and communicate with a broad range of professional disciplines
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and as an individual
  • Ability to present highly complex data to large and varied audiences

Desirable Qualifications

  • PhD in a Physics-related subject
  • Experience of working with quality management systems
  • Presentation of scientific papers at professional meetings
  • Publication of scientific papers or other reports
