The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Actuarial Research Lead to join our research team at Pacific Life Re. As the lead on a variety of projects, you will be responsible for setting best estimate assumptions, including data collection, analysis, model fitting, and approval. This requires strong problem-solving and innovation skills to set a market-leading basis.

About the Role

You will be working closely with our team to support new business plans, including longevity initiatives. You will also be responsible for expanding our knowledge of actuarial and statistical methods for best estimate assumption setting and data analysis. This will enable us to maintain a high level of technical knowledge in respect of mortality, morbidity, and longevity risk.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement new approaches and techniques to set best estimate assumptions.
  2. Support new business plans, including longevity initiatives.
  3. Expand knowledge of actuarial and statistical methods for best estimate assumption setting and data analysis.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications

  • Qualified Fellow of the Institute or Faculty of Actuaries or other similar organisation.
  • Familiarity with experience studies and pricing within the life insurance industry.
  • Good understanding of the Longevity insurance/reinsurance market.
  • Interest in programming and comfortable with or willing to learn software packages, such as Tableau, SQL, and R.
  • Experience in statistical or machine learning techniques being applied to insurance.
