About the Opportunity


Mitchells of Mansfield Ltd is seeking a seasoned Senior Financial Controller / Finance Director to join our senior management team as a key member. This pivotal role will oversee all company-wide finance and potentially HR functions, ensuring seamless operations and strategic growth.


The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in senior financial leadership, with a proven track record in similar SME/mid-market businesses. As a qualified accountant, you will possess strong knowledge of financial reporting and work closely with external reporting accountants.


This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative leader who can develop and drive business growth through effective financial management. You will be comfortable working alongside the board of directors/shareholders and senior teams, with excellent communication skills and a keen eye for detail.


Main Responsibilities



  • Develop and implement short- and medium-term integrated financial forecasting models/annual operating plans in collaboration with the directors and commercial team.
  • Oversee core finance records, online government portals, and related taxes/management reporting packs, focusing on P&L, BS, cashflows, and MI reporting, targeting the senior management team and shareholders.
  • Presentation of monthly results to the senior management team, shareholders, and key financial stakeholders.
  • Leadership/management of monthly, quarterly, and annual budgets and forecasts, driving cost and efficiency savings across the group.
  • Prepare statutory audits and tax returns, collaborating with external auditors and tax teams to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Principal point of contact/management of key financial stakeholder relationships, including main banks, invoice, and asset finance connections.
  • Develop and maintain necessary systems, policies, and procedures, along with internal audit programs, to ensure efficient financial management.
  • Joint oversight with Commercial teams of external contracts and services provided by suppliers to ensure effective terms and value.
  • Create operational performance measurement tools for robust management and accurate KPI numbers.
  • Improve month-end and general operational efficiency through standardized management reporting packs and automated reports.
  • Oversight and ownership of regulations and legislation.
  • Presentation and management of reporting to directors, senior management team, shareholders, and financial stakeholders on all financial and borrowing base matters.
  • Manage direct reports.

Requirements



  • Qualified accountant with strong financial reporting knowledge.
  • Out-of-the-box thinker with leadership experience, interpersonal skills, and a proven track record for day-to-day information management and timely reporting.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable working alongside the board of directors/shareholders and senior teams.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Data privacy standards understanding.
  • Advanced Excel and accounting system experience.
  • Knowledge of the industry (advantageous but not essential).
