Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Sprinkler Engineer to join our team at Protec Fire Detection PLC.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Management: Manage sprinkler or water mist installation contracts from initial enquiry through to final accounts.
  • Financial Control: Assume full financial control of projects, delivering the works efficiently and profitably, including responsibility for raising purchase and subcontract orders.
  • Site Management: Effectively manage the installation work on site; attending regular client meetings; having responsibility for health and safety; producing progress updates and reports; and completion of project quality assurance checks.
  • Programme Management: Prepare and communicate detailed programmes of work to ensure deadlines and contract requirements are met.
  • Communication: Liaise with suppliers, design, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery and information flow, and accurately report to clients, contractors and governing bodies as necessary.
  • Contract Negotiation: Negotiate, monitor, and produce quotations for contract variations.
  • Problem Solving: Highlight possible problem areas at the earliest opportunity and obtain commercial advice where necessary.
  • Reporting: Prepare technical reports and submittals including operating and maintenance manuals and handover documents, by collating and presenting relevant information.
  • Quality Assurance: Identify and report deviations or nonconformities from scope, Standards or contract.
  • Travel: Ability to travel within the UK, and visit European suppliers as necessary for the role.
Person Specification

Candidates shall be able to demonstrate the necessary qualifications, experience, skills, and traits to meet the requirements set below. Requirements for the role shall be evidenced on the application form and in the interview process.

Qualifications

Essential: GCSE in Maths and English, Mechanical engineering qualification, NVQ Level 6 in Construction Management, CSCS Construction Skills Card, Health and Safety Qualification, IOSH, SMSTS, etc.

Desirable: Experience of construction project engineering or management, Experience within sprinkler or water mist suppression project engineering or management, Knowledge of current relevant suppression British Standards and Regulations, including LPC 12845, BS 8489, BS 9251, NFPA, FM Global, Knowledge of sprinkler or water mist equipment and installation.

Experience

Essential: Experience of construction project engineering or management.

Desirable: Experience within sprinkler or water mist suppression project engineering or management, Knowledge of current relevant suppression British Standards and Regulations, including LPC 12845, BS 8489, BS 9251, NFPA, FM Global, Knowledge of sprinkler or water mist equipment and installation.

Essential: Ability to manage client and management expectations, Ability to confidently deal with difficult and stressful situations, Excellent oral and written communication skills, Competent using Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel, Outlook, Project and PowerPoint, A keen eye for detail, Proven track record of project financial control, The ability to maintain accurate records, Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritise workload, Read and understand engineering drawings, layouts, and plans, Ability to communicate effectively with staff at varying levels throughout the company and externally, Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team, Ability to supervise and lead a team to produce desired project deliverables, Reporting and analysing project KPIs and CTCs to management.

Desirable: Commitment to confidentiality and data protection, Able to complete minimum Disclosure and Barring Service ( DBS ) check upon successful appointment, Enthusiasm, willingness to learn and 'can do' attitude, A full and valid driving licence, Flexible approach to working hours.
