About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Head of Commercial to join our team at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a major hospital development project, where you will lead and manage all contract negotiations and post-contract commercial management.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in commercial management, procurement, or supply chain roles, preferably within the NHS. They will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of a robust, high-quality, and professional contract management service that meets statutory, regulatory, and NHS requirements.

The role requires close collaboration with senior business stakeholders to develop and implement both short- and long-term strategies for the relevant sub-programmes. The Head of Commercial will drive continuous improvement by identifying and implementing measurable efficiencies in both cost and operational delivery.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all contract negotiations and post-contract commercial management for the Securing the Future Programme.
  • Ensure the delivery of a robust, high-quality, and professional contract management service that meets statutory, regulatory, and NHS requirements.
  • Develop and implement both short- and long-term strategies for the relevant sub-programmes.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying and implementing measurable efficiencies in both cost and operational delivery.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Educated to masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area.
  • Professional procurement or commercial qualifications e.g. MRICS, MCIPS.

Desirable

  • P3O Practitioner
  • PRINCE2/ PRINCE2 Agile/ MSP

Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • Extensive experience in commercial management, procurement, or supply chain roles, preferably within the NHS.
  • Subject matter expertise across a number of key areas relating to Contract Management.
  • Extensive experience in a variety of Procurement and Contracting models and specifically in Construction NEC based contracting environments, using a range of reimbursement models.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a large infrastructure programme interfacing with project managers, planners, risk managers and project controls with demonstrable experience of strategic Cost Management at a programme level.
  • Demonstrable experience of governing, managing or overseeing Quantity Surveying teams within the Healthcare sector.

Knowledge

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of the New Hospital Programme.
  • General awareness of the national guidance on identifying and managing Reinforced Aerated Autoclaved Concrete (RAAC).
