About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Deputy Head of Legal to join our team at LSTM. As a key member of our legal department, you will play a critical role in shaping the future direction of our legal services and providing expert advice to our academic and professional services teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality legal advice and support to all functions of LSTM, including overseas subsidiaries and projects.
  • Manage a team of four research associates, providing guidance and oversight to ensure the successful delivery of projects.
  • Provide specialist legal support in areas such as HR/employment, construction, real estate, company law, charity law, GDPR/data protection, IP, and IT.
  • Draft and negotiate commercial contracts, including experience in negotiating, drafting, and advising on various types of commercial contracts and related issues.
Requirements
  • Minimum qualified undergraduate degree level (or equivalent) in law (LLB) or other relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Completion of the Legal Practice Course, Bar Vocational Course, or equivalent, and qualified to practice as a Solicitor or equivalent in England and Wales.
  • Experience of working in a professional contract and/or general legal role, with a strong understanding of commercial contract law-related matters.
  • Experience of managing a team and preparing, reviewing, and negotiating a range of contracts for internal and external review.
  • Excellent knowledge, experience, and understanding of developments in relevant legislation, practices, and procedures.
  • Experience of working and investigating across a range of legal issues, and a range of corporate entities, including dealings between business and charitable/not-for-profit organizations.
  • Experience of managing large and complex matters from commencement through to completion, on time and on budget.
  • Outstanding writing skills, with the ability to write/prepare high-quality papers, presentations, reports, and briefings to senior audiences.
