Process Engineer

Job Summary
The Process Engineer will be responsible for optimizing and improving processes in the Fermentation department. This role will involve applying engineering principles to new and existing equipment, as well as evaluating and implementing new technologies. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to safety culture and excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to management and production staff.
- Continually fine-tune and optimize the process to improve efficiency and safety in the production area.
- Facilitate troubleshooting efforts and address production limiting factors.
- Share in the coordination of weekly maintenance planning for the production area.
- Work closely with the microbiology team in a lab setting.
- Lead the development of departmental optimization projects through management of change, capital projects, issuing work requests, and coordinating start-up of new processes.
- Support plant safety by performing safety observations, near miss reporting, and submitting safety work requests.
- Reinforce quality and the food safety management system by incorporating GMP and MOC programs into the department.
- Work with plant personnel to ensure environmental compliance of the fermentation department.
- Work with colleagues to develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions. Train colleagues after SOP approval.
- Support the department superintendent to provide coverage when needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with root cause analysis.
- Knowledge of working in a laboratory environment understanding microbiology processes.
- Ability to interpret flow diagrams and P&IDs.
- Ability to recognize, assess, and provide opportunities for yield improvement and process optimization.
