As a Senior Podiatric Surgery Professional at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, you will have the opportunity to work with a talented team of professionals who are passionate about delivering high-quality care to our patients.

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Podiatric Surgeon Consultant to join our team. The successful candidate will have significant postgraduate experience and be registered to practice with the Health Professions Council.

About the Role

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Consultant Podiatric Surgeons to assist in the delivery and development of the podiatric surgery service across the trust. This includes assessing and treating patients preoperatively and postoperatively in out-patient clinics, admitting and recovering patients in the theatre setting, and administering and monitoring local anaesthetic blocks using advanced techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  1. To support the Consultant Podiatric Surgeons to assist in the delivery and development of the podiatric surgery service across the trust.
  2. To conduct clinical assessments, diagnose, plan, implement, deliver, and evaluate conservative podiatric interventions.
  3. To undertake patient care during surgery, including administering advanced local anaesthetic injections, monitoring patients for early signs of medical emergencies, and taking appropriate action and resuscitation as necessary.
  4. To act as a mentor to the community podiatry team and provide specialist clinical observations and advice.
  5. To participate in the planning and delivery of surgical in-service training.

Requirements

  • A degree or equivalent in Podiatric Medicine from an accredited educational establishment.
  • Considerable postgraduate study, training, and further qualification such as 'IRMER' X Ray certification and Therapeutic Injection Therapy.
  • Registration to practice with the Health Professions Council and several years post-qualification podiatric experience.
  • Evidence of working in a podiatric surgery department.
  • Significant postgraduate experience.
  • Able to plan and manage complex specialised caseloads.
  • Evidence of mentoring podiatrists participating in the podiatric surgery rotation scheme.
  • Experience of advanced local anaesthesia techniques.
  • Experience of post-op patient care.
  • Evidence of supervising podiatry assistants/podiatry students/senior II's.
  • Evidence of clinical development following graduation.
  • Able to undertake complex biomechanical assessments.
  • Able to assess patients' structural and functional abnormalities.
  • Able to produce chairside orthoses.

Estimated Salary: £49,186 - £66,407 per annum
