Nurse Specialist in Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Nurse to join our SACT team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering safe and effective nursing care and treatment to patients receiving Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy, medical and supportive treatments, or undergoing medical investigations on the Amberley Unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality nursing care to patients with cancer, including those receiving SACT, medical and supportive treatments, or undergoing medical investigations.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless care delivery and effective communication.
  • Administer medications, including intravenous medications, and perform cannulation and venepuncture procedures as required.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families, including pre-SACT patient information sessions.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of care plans, ensuring that patients receive individualized and person-centered care.
Person Specification
  • Current NMC registration as a Registered General Nurse (RGN).
  • Experience post-registration in an acute clinical setting, preferably in haematology/oncology.
  • SACT administration qualification.
  • Current competency in the administration of intravenous medications, cannulation, and venepuncture.
  • Experience in haematology/oncology nursing, including the administration of blood products.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
  • Training in immediate life support (ILS).
  • Current competency in the administration of blood products.
  • Experience in delivering pre-SACT patient information sessions.
  • Experience in handling telephone triage.
  • Demonstrated skill in handling bad news situations.
