Job Overview:

This Specialist Oral Surgeon position at Luton Hospital offers an exciting opportunity to join a well-established team providing comprehensive oral and maxillofacial surgery services to the local population.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing and carrying out a wide range of oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures, including trauma and on-call duties. They will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care and contribute to the development of the department's specialty interests.

As part of the Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, you will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including a well-equipped Maxillofacial Laboratory and digital imaging facility. The OMFS department at Lister Hospital has day surgery lists in both the Treatment Centre and the newly built Day Surgery unit.

We are committed to teaching and training both undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors, and have an excellent reputation for junior staff training. The appointee will participate in a 1:8 on-call commitment based at Luton & Dunstable Hospital.

The Clinical Director will encourage the member to be part of the New Consultant Forum of the British Association of Oral & Maxillofacial surgeons and will also help to choose a mentor within the Trust but outside the department.

Main Duties:

The post-holder will be competent in assessing and carrying out the full range of oral and maxillofacial surgery. All in-patient services and on-call duties have been centralised to Luton Hospital. Out-patient clinics, day case surgery, and local anaesthetic minor oral surgery are undertaken in all of the units.

The OMFS department at Lister Hospital has a well-equipped Maxillofacial Laboratory staffed by three technicians and its own in-house digital imaging facility.

As this role is within scope of the current legislation COVID-19 vaccination status will remain part of our routine Occupational Health check.
