Job Summary

The NHS Blood and Transplant is a vital component of the National Health Service, operating a network of centres across England to collect, process, and distribute blood and tissue products for patient treatment. As a Blood Production Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient handling of blood donations, from receipt to issuance to hospitals.

Main Responsibilities

  • Process and issue blood donations to hospitals, working closely with supervisors and team members to ensure seamless operations.
  • Provide support and training to less experienced staff, promoting a culture of excellence and teamwork.
  • Perform precise and repetitive tasks, such as manipulating equipment and blood samples, to maintain high standards of quality and safety.
  • Handle blood bags and equipment with care, adhering to strict protocols and procedures.
  • Work variable hours, including weekends and bank holidays, as part of a dynamic and flexible roster.
  • Manually handle equipment weighing up to 13 kgs, with or without mechanical aids, following proper training and guidelines.

About You

Experience and Knowledge

  • Previous experience in a pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or laboratory environment would be advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other IT systems is essential.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment and adhering to strict procedures would be beneficial.

Qualifications and Training

  • A Level or NVQ Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject area, or extensive experience in a logistics or supply chain environment.
  • GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths, or equivalent qualification, is desirable.
  • Willingness to undertake further training and development opportunities.
