About the RoleWe are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as a Waterway Operative. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our waterways, including maintenance, conservation, and improvement of our waterway network.
Key Responsibilities- Work outdoors in a unique and wonderful environment, contributing to the maintenance, conservation, and improvement of our waterway network.
- Undertake water control duties, including the operation of structures such as locks and bridges, in a safe manner to ensure customers are not hindered in their visit to the waterway.
- Undertake key duties associated with the maintenance of the waterway and waterside, including towpath litter removal, towpath and access repairs.
- Ensure environmental and heritage issues are taken into consideration in all work undertaken.
- Provide a first response for any emergencies or incidents that may occur within the waterway.
- Support asset inspections, identifying and reporting any structure failures, breaches, damage, or pollution incidents to Operations Supervisor or Engineers.
- Undertake vegetation management activities to ensure our outdoor spaces are well maintained.
- Participate in the standby rota to support delivery of customer service to defined standards and reaction to emergency situations.
- Experience of working within a relevant environment, such as customer service, outdoor visitor services, maintenance, or visitor attractions.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- A valid driving license appropriate for the vehicle to be driven.
We offer a competitive salary, with a starting salary of £23,260, plus a salary progression plan. We also offer a contributory DC Pension scheme arrangement, great holiday entitlement, and numerous other employee benefits, including several salary sacrifice benefits.
