As one of the largest animal rescue centres in South Yorkshire, Thornberry Animal Sanctuary cares for Dogs, Cats, Horses, Rabbits and more, providing a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of animals and people.

We are seeking a highly skilled finance professional to join our team and take charge of our finances, ensuring efficient management and effective use of resources.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • To manage and maintain the organisation's finances and accounting systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • To maximise income for the charity through effective gift aid monitoring, timely payment processing, and optimising revenue streams.
  • To develop and implement information systems to monitor Gift Aid and project activity, ensuring accurate and reliable data and insights.
  • To prepare and submit financial statements, maintain cash controls, and process payments efficiently.
  • To reconcile bank accounts on a weekly basis, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues promptly, ensuring accuracy and transparency.
  • To raise invoices, monitor debtors, and reconcile donations from various sources, including online platforms, standing orders, and direct debits.
  • To administer and monitor petty cash, ensure accurate records, and prevent losses, promoting responsible financial management.
  • To produce quarterly management accounts, including variance analysis reports, to support informed decision-making and strategic planning.
  • To maintain donor databases, ensuring up-to-date information and optimal gift aid utilisation, fostering strong relationships with supporters.
  • To prepare and maintain asset registers, ensuring accurate records and compliance with regulations, supporting the charity's long-term sustainability.
  • To ensure proper filing and archiving of financial documents, contracts, and other relevant materials, promoting organisational efficiency and accessibility.
Required Skills and Experience
  • At least 2 years of experience in a finance role, preferably in a charitable or non-profit organisation.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Sage One) and Microsoft Excel, with advanced skills in data analysis and interpretation.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office packages (Word, Powerpoint), with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Current knowledge of third sector reporting preferred, with the ability to apply best practices and standards.
  • Highly organised with exceptional financial administration skills, including:
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing circumstances, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately, with a focus on quality and precision.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and independently, with a high degree of autonomy and self-motivation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, promoting open communication and mutual respect.
  • Able to work to deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, with a strong sense of priority and time management.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex finance concepts to various audiences, including stakeholders, donors, and colleagues.
Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this role is £26,400 per annum, based on experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, pension scheme, and opportunities for professional development.
