The role can be based at the main site in Rotherham or worked on a Hybrid basis, offering flexibility and adaptability.

Thornberry Animal Sanctuary cares for Dogs, Cats, Horses, Rabbits and more. Established in 1988, we are one of the largest animal rescue centres in the region.

We are seeking a highly skilled finance professional to join our team and take charge of our finances, ensuring efficient management and effective use of resources.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks
  1. To manage and maintain the organisation's finances and accounting systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  2. To maximise income for the charity through effective gift aid monitoring and timely payment processing.
  3. To develop and implement information systems to monitor Gift Aid and project activity, ensuring accurate and reliable data.
  4. To prepare and submit financial statements, maintain cash controls, and process payments.
  5. To reconcile bank accounts on a weekly basis, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues promptly.
  6. To raise invoices, monitor debtors, and reconcile donations from various sources.
  7. To administer and monitor petty cash, ensure accurate records, and prevent losses.
  8. To produce quarterly management accounts, including variance analysis reports, to support informed decision-making.
  9. To maintain donor databases, ensuring up-to-date information and optimal gift aid utilisation.
  10. To prepare and maintain asset registers, ensuring accurate records and compliance with regulations.
  11. To ensure proper filing and archiving of financial documents, contracts, and other relevant materials.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of experience in a finance role.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (Sage One) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office packages (Word, Powerpoint).
  • Current knowledge of third sector reporting preferred.
  • Highly organised with exceptional financial administration skills, including:
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing circumstances.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and independently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and communicate effectively.
  • Able to work to deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex finance concepts to various audiences.
Salary and Benefits Package

The salary for this role is £25,600 per annum, based on experience, plus benefits package.
