Job Summary:

GEMINI RECRUITMENT SERVICES LTD is seeking a highly skilled Crime Duty Solicitor to join our client's team. As a Crime Duty Solicitor, you will be responsible for handling a wide range of criminal defence cases, including private and legal aid clients.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Report directly to the Department Director
  • Responsible for all aspects of Crime work and providing technical expertise and guidance to other team members
  • Manage a caseload of complex and sensitive cases, including bail applications, serious fraud, white collar crime, murder, drug crime, and theft
  • Represent clients detained at the police station, conduct advocacy in the Magistrates Court, and attend to clients both in and outside of office hours
  • Develop and implement effective case strategies, prepare statements, and collate evidence
  • Collaborate with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and courts to ensure the best possible outcomes for clients
  • Provide exceptional client care and maintain accurate time costing procedures
  • Implement recommendations made by supervisors following monthly file reviews
  • Ensure compliance with file management and maintain a professional, proactive approach

Requirements:

  • Duty and Police Station Accredited
  • Higher rights of advocacy qualification (advantageous but not necessary)
  • Valid Practicing Certificate at the time of application
  • Committed team player with the ability to adapt to new challenges
  • Previous supervisory experience (advantageous)
  • Excellent client care skills, analytical and organizational skills, and ability to use own initiative and sound judgment
  • Working knowledge of publically funded Crime work and ability to service privately funded cases
  • Extensive experience in handling a Criminal Defence caseload
  • Excellent IT skills, familiar with Microsoft Office applications and document management
