Job Summary:

Duncan Lewis Solicitors is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Crime Duty Solicitor to join our Crime Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality legal services to our clients, including representing them at police stations, courts, and other legal proceedings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent clients at police stations, courts, and other legal proceedings
  • Conduct advocacy in the Magistrates Court and other courts
  • Prepare cases, including gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses
  • Deal with correspondence and maintain accurate time costing procedures
  • Implement recommendations made by supervisors following monthly file reviews
  • Ensure compliance with file management and other legal requirements
  • Manage a variety of duties, including dealing with a full range of Criminal Defence cases

Requirements:

  • Duty and Police Station Accredited
  • Higher rights of advocacy qualification (advantageous but not necessary)
  • Valid Practising Certificate at the time of applying
  • Committed team player with adaptability to new challenges
  • Previous supervisory experience (advantageous)
  • Professional with a proactive approach, excellent client care skills, and ability to deal with vulnerable clients
  • Excellent networking and communication skills, with ability to market the Company and generate new business
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with ability to use own initiative and sound judgment
  • Working knowledge of publicly funded Crime work and ability to service privately funded cases
  • Extensive experience in handling a Criminal Defence caseload
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications and document management
