Job Title: Crime Duty Solicitor

Duncan Lewis Solicitors is a leading law firm with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality crime defence services. We are seeking an experienced Crime Duty Solicitor to join our team in the Crime Department.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert legal advice and representation to clients in the Crime Department. This will include attending clients, taking instructions, and preparing cases, as well as dealing with correspondence and maintaining accurate time costing procedures.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Report directly to the Department Director
  • Responsible for all aspects of Crime work and providing technical expertise and guidance to other team members
  • Manage appropriate caseload types and complexities
  • Attend clients, take instructions, and prepare cases
  • Deal with correspondence
  • Maintain accurate time costing procedures
  • Implement recommendations made by the supervisor following monthly file reviews
  • Ensure compliance with file management
  • Represent clients detained at the police station, conduct advocacy in the Magistrates Court, and attend to clients both in and outside of office hours
Key Skills:
  • Duty and Police Station Accredited
  • Higher rights of advocacy qualification an advantage
  • Valid Practising Certificate at the time of applying
  • Committed team player and adaptable to new challenges
  • Previous supervisory experience an advantage
  • Professional with a proactive approach, excellent client care skills, and ability to deal with client matters in a sensitive manner
  • Excellent networking and communication skills
  • Ability to use own initiative and sound judgment
  • Working knowledge of the publicly funded Crime work and ability to service privately funded cases
  • Extensive experience in handling a Criminal Defence caseload
  • Excellent IT Skills
