Aerospace Engine Design and Analysis Expert needed for our team at ZipRecruiter We're seeking an expert in designing, analyzing, and optimizing compression system structures used in aircraft gas turbine engines.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Compression System Design: Design and analyze compression system components including rotor blades, stators, casings, and other structural elements to ensure optimal performance and durability.
  • Material Selection and Manufacturing Process: Collaborate with materials engineers to select suitable materials and manufacturing processes for compression system components, taking into account factors like material properties, environmental conditions, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Fatigue and Fracture Analysis: Conduct fatigue life and fracture mechanics analyses to evaluate the structural integrity of compression system components under mission-defined operational conditions. Identify critical areas and potential failure modes, then develop mitigation strategies to enhance component reliability.
  • Vibration and Modal Analysis: Perform vibration and modal analysis to understand the dynamic behavior of compression system structures. Identify natural frequencies, mode shapes, and potential resonance effects, and implement design modifications to mitigate vibration issues.
  • Thermal Analysis: Assess thermal effects on compression system structures resulting from aerodynamic heating, cooling flows, and internal heat. Ensure effective thermal management strategies are implemented to prevent excessive temperature gradients and thermal stresses.
  • Design Optimization: Partner with aerodynamic engineers to optimize compressor blade and vane shapes for improved aerodynamic performance while maintaining structural integrity and longevity. Balance structural requirements with aerodynamic and aeromechanics objectives to achieve the best overall design solution.
  • Structural Testing and Validation: Provide guidance and support for structural testing of compression system components and assemblies. Analyze test data to validate analytical predictions and refine structural models and design methodologies.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct risk assessments to identify potential structural concerns such as flutter, resonance, and fatigue cracking. Develop risk mitigation plans and collaborate with aerodynamic, mechanical, and systems engineers to address identified risks.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare technical reports, design documentation, and presentations to convey structural analysis results, design recommendations, and project status to internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Training and Mentorship: Provide guidance and hands-on training to less-experienced personnel in applying analytical tools, interpreting simulation or testing results, and making balanced decisions required to successfully deploy a compression system design.

This position offers a competitive salary of $150,000-$200,000 annually, depending on experience, and is based in Cheshire, CT.
