Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom MPOWIR Mentoring Physical Oceanography Women to Increase Retention Full time
Research Opportunities in Physical Oceanography

MPOWIR is seeking highly qualified postdoctoral researchers to join our team at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the University of Edinburgh.

Project Overview

Our research project focuses on the role of internal waves in the ocean's energetics. We aim to investigate the process of stimulated loss of balance, where wind-forced near-inertial waves and internal tides extract kinetic energy from the balanced mesoscale flow.

Responsibilities
  • Derive and analyze simplified theoretical models
  • Develop numerical code and conduct simulations
  • Collaborate with our team to advance our understanding of ocean dynamics
Requirements

We are looking for candidates with a strong background in fluid dynamics and expertise in numerical modeling, as evidenced by their publications. Experience in oceanography or atmospheric sciences is highly desirable.

Candidates should hold a PhD by the start date and be able to work independently and collaboratively as part of our team.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit their application, including their CV and a cover letter, to our team. We look forward to hearing from you.
