Lead Policy Developer at Autism Together

Job Summary:

The Lead Policy Developer will be responsible for developing and implementing policies that support the mission and goals of Autism Together. This role will involve working closely with the Director of People and other stakeholders to ensure that policies are evidence-based and aligned with the organization's strategic objectives.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Influencing policy and frameworks with Operations, People Services, Estates and Finance to ensure that policies are evidence-based.
  • Developing Autism Together's position on key aspects of regulatory policy and practice by managing a range of policies including Operational, People Services, Estates and Finance.
  • Working through complex issues and using critical thinking skills to find solutions.
  • Drafting changes in policy to the Executive Team on matters related to health and social care professional regulation and other regulatory policy and practice that affects Autism Together.
  • Managing and supporting the delivery of specific policy and practice programme projects relating to key priorities for all departments across the Charity.
  • Keeping abreast of developments in professional regulation in the UK to upkeep policy development across the Charity.
  • Maintaining and keeping the Chief Executive and Executive Directors well informed about significant issues and developments in health, care and regulation and possible impacts on policy development.
  • Developing and implementing ways to support and encourage the implementation of policy and regulations into the Charity, maintaining standards of business and professional regulation.
  • Identifying contentious or sensitive issues and working with the Head of People, Chief Executive and Directors to manage them effectively and protect the reputation of the Charity with proactive development of policy in line with regulations.
  • Providing advice, and explanations of complex concepts orally and in writing to a range of audiences, in a clear and factual way.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and pieces of work.
  • Leading programme governance including delivery risks and quality assurance.
  • Establishing relationships with other stakeholders within the Charity that help inform and promote our policy and recommendations on regulation.
  • Managing a portfolio of policy and research for Autism Together.
  • Keeping up to date with changing legislation that impacts the Charity by researching current policy change.
  • Providing policy input, support and advice to other parts of the charity, including inductions and participation in cross-organisational events and working groups. Producing briefings for internal staff including the senior leadership team.
  • The Lead Policy Developer will also contribute to the wider work of the team, directorate and charity, including representing the charity on cross-sector groups, drafting briefings, and attending stakeholder meetings.

Information Assets and Cybersecurity:

As part of your role, you will be responsible as an Information Asset Owner in supporting the organisation with cybersecurity and in its protection of its information assets.

Person Specification:

Qualifications / Training:

  • Degree level education
  • Experience of Policy review and implementation
  • Demonstration of a high level of experience of working at a senior level in a specialist area
  • Qualifications in professional development

Experience / Knowledge:

  • Essential: Must understand the background and aims of policy impact and implications on legislation
  • Desirable: Experience of influencing Policy
  • Held a position which involved and supported Policy within a company
  • Experience in the Care Industry

Skills / Abilities:

  • Ability to analyse complex facts and situations and develop a range of options
  • Experience of project management
  • Provide, present and receive highly complex information to key stakeholders
