An exciting position has become available for a motivated Senior Clinical Pharmacist with strong vision and leadership capabilities to join our organization as part of the Critical Care team, overseeing the trust formulary.

The ideal candidate will be a driven, experienced professional with robust teaching and clinical skills. You should possess excellent interpersonal, leadership, and managerial abilities. A postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or an equivalent credential is essential, along with hospital pharmacy experience in critical care settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, deliver, develop, and monitor the pharmacy critical care service within the organization, collaborating with the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Develop and maintain the web-based hospital formulary, netFormulary, in partnership with the Lead Pharmacist for Medicines Information.
  • Provide training in critical care competencies to clinical staff.
  • Act as a tutor for trainee pharmacists and a mentor for diploma candidates as requested by the Education and Training Lead.
  • Coordinate and contribute to the creation and review of pharmacy information bulletins.
  • Deliver a highly specialized service to critical care, ensuring mechanisms are in place to promote high-quality medication use, effective risk management, patient safety initiatives, and adherence to organizational policies and guidelines.
  • Advise on drug budget management and lead, develop, and evaluate the clinical pharmacy service provided in this area.
  • Maintain a regular ward pharmacy commitment, ensuring a safe, effective, and efficient clinical pharmacy service while contributing to the development of clinical pharmacy services, including training and implementation of relevant policies and risk management initiatives.
  • Provide support as needed to clinical pharmacy services, dispensary, production, and medicines management programs.
  • Lead, initiate, or contribute to relevant practice research or audit projects within the pharmacy and publish the results as appropriate.

Qualifications and Training

Essential:

  • MRPharmS or equivalent, registered with GPhC.
  • Completion of a postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy/Pharmacy Practice or equivalent.
  • Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to maintain fitness to practice.

Desirable:

  • Independent Non-Medical Prescribing qualification.
  • Membership in the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
  • Management qualification or equivalent experience.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential:

  • Relevant hospital experience.
  • Experience in staff management.
  • Critical care experience.
  • Ability to manage and supervise staff effectively.
  • Experience in leading and implementing change.
  • Ability to engage with the public, senior clinicians, and other healthcare and pharmaceutical industry professionals.
  • Experience in managing or advising on drug expenditure.
  • Understanding of formulary and drug utilization review (DUR) and clinical trial issues.
  • Knowledge of risk management in medication usage processes.

  • Project management experience.
