Operational Weather Specialist

We're looking for exceptional meteorologists to join our team at the Met Office, making a positive impact on the planet.
The role may be suitable for hybrid working, where employees work part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary arrangement, with the location advertised being the employee's contractual place of work.

This full-time position is 37 hours per week, but we would also consider applicants wishing to work a minimum of 22 hours per week. We'll do our best to agree a working pattern that suits everyone.
Delivering Meteorological ServicesAs an Operational Meteorologist, you'll interpret real-time weather information and deliver meteorological and environmental services to support decision-makers. These services are delivered both face-to-face and remotely, depending on customer requirements and location.
You'll work mainly onsite to deliver services to customers, with occasional opportunities for home-working. Vacancies exist for already qualified Meteorologists at Royal Air Force and Army Air Corps stations throughout the UK. Further opportunities may arise in our Services Operations Centres in Exeter, Aberdeen, and Heathrow Airport.
You'll also have the chance to work flexibly with our Overseas and Deployed teams in locations including Cyprus and Gibraltar, as well as the Antarctic and South Atlantic.
Your Key Responsibilities- Be part of a shift-working team to provide observing and forecasting capability to support customer operations.
- Analyse and enhance forecast guidance, using local knowledge to deliver services and advice to customers.
- D eliver high-quality services to customers, including briefings, and continually improve these products and services through customer engagement.
You'll provide accurate and timely forecasting services to customers, meeting service agreements as a member of a shift-working roster. Using your meteorological knowledge, you'll advise customers on the impact weather may have on their business, ensuring you're confident interacting with and influencing customers as you are forecasting.

- £46,974 annually (including £33,794 base pay).
- An Unsocial Hours Shift Allowance until end March 2025, if applicable to the working pattern at your location.
- A Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 27%.
- Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years.
