Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and manage staff to meet the needs of children and young people.
  • Undertake direct work with children and young people as appropriate.
  • Manage child protection concerns and complaints.
  • Work in partnership with other professionals to achieve optimum outcomes for young people.
  • Offer supervision and support to senior staff in line with National Minimum Standards.

Key Tasks:

  • Ensure each staff member is aware of each child's placement plan and their responsibilities for its implementation.
  • Attend childcare reviews and planning meetings to provide information and achieve best outcomes for young people.
  • Undertake direct work with young people and act as an appropriate role model.
  • Develop systems to consult young people about the quality of care they receive.
  • Maintain accurate written records in logs, continuation sheets, and files.

Requirements:

  • Working in partnership with parents, carers, and other professionals to safeguard and promote the welfare of young people.
  • Chairing children's meetings and facilitating consultation with young people.
  • Acting as an appropriate adult at PACE interviews.
  • Assisting with the recruitment and retention of staff.
  • Supervising new starters during their probationary period.

Management Responsibilities:

  • Developing a management style that balances control and decision-making opportunities for staff.
  • Planning shifts and ensuring their smooth running when on duty.
  • Offering 1:1 supervision to staff in line with National Minimum Standards.
  • Identifying and progressing individual training and development needs of staff.
  • Conducting management investigations when required.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring staff work within the Home's policies, procedures, and National Minimum Standards requirements.
  • Monitoring the fabric of the building and taking remedial action where necessary.
  • Developing routines in consultation with young people and staff.
  • Clarifying expectations for maintaining the Home in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Creating rotas that fit best with children's needs.

Working with the Registered Manager:

  • Assisting in promoting personal and professional development through the appropriate delegation of duties and responsibilities.
