About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our Regulation team as a Radiation Safety Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the regulation of medical exposure to radiation and improve the care provided across Scotland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake inspections of services delivering or administering ionising radiation to patients undergoing medical exposures.
  • Conduct investigations of exposures much greater than intended and ensure that all reasonable steps are in place to prevent significant accidental or unintended exposure to ionizing radiation.
  • Develop inspection guidance and protocols.
  • Support the registration and inspection of independent healthcare services, including independent hospitals, hospices, private psychiatric hospitals, and independent clinics.

Requirements

  • Education to degree level, master's level (or with equivalent experience).
  • Background working in radiology or similar, with a knowledge of medical exposure to radiation and experience of local systems designed to deliver safe care.
  • Ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017 (IR(ME)R) and experience of managing or auditing IR(ME)R compliance.
