About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced clinician to join our team at South West London and St Georges Mental Health NHS Trust. As a Senior Mental Health Clinician, you will be responsible for assessing patients' mental health care needs and delivering a caring and safe service in a timely and organized way.

The post holder will work closely with the Consultant Psychiatrist Team manager and other clinicians to ensure governance standards are maintained, and support in daily team functioning, thus ensuring that our key performance indicators and quality improvement are met.

You will be expected to utilise community resources, working closely with Primary Care, and communicate and collaborate effectively with all agencies and agents involved in supporting adults with severe mental health problems.

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Providing information and reports as required and accurately documenting all relevant information regarding clients and staff, in keeping with the Trust guidelines and the NMC standard for records and record keeping.
  • Assisting in the successful induction of new staff and regular supervision of students and junior staff.
  • Participating in the development of junior staff, acting as a mentor for student nurses and a preceptor to newly qualified staff, ensuring appropriate teaching, support and supervision.
  • Implementing and contributing to policy and service development as appropriate.
  • Participating in the Trust's complaints procedure and critical incident reporting when required and working within the policies and procedures of the Trust.
Professional Development

The post holder will be expected to maintain and improve their own professional, clinical, managerial, knowledge and skills by promoting self-growth and development through the in-service training program and other educational program/materials as agreed by the Line Manager.

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining high standards of professional practice and competence in keeping with the professional bodies to whom they are accountable such as the NMC BAOT etc.
  • Maintaining a record of professional development by use of a personal profile and meet the requirements for continuing practice such as Revalidation or PDP for continued registration.
  • Identifying needs/goals through supervision, appraisal and development reviews.
  • To be conversant in and contribute to local initiatives on Clinical Governance, i.e.; Risk Management, Clinical Effectiveness and Local Clinical improvement Groups.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • RMN, social worker or occupational therapist with current relevant registration
  • Diploma/BSC in Community nursing
  • Evidence of post registration training related to the provision of relevant psychosocial interventions
Experience and Knowledge

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrable experience of working with people who experience serious ongoing mental health problems in a variety of settings
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of assessing and managing crisis with those with a severe mental illness
  • Experience of providing thorough baseline mental health assessments and case formulation based on these
  • Experience of working in community nursing
  • Experience of working in a CMHT or other community health setting
  • Experience of contributing to policy and procedure development and implementation
  • Experience of recruitment and selection of staff
  • Experience of managing and monitoring budgets
KNOWLEDGE & SKILL

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Skills in assessment, care planning and case management
  • Ability to assess clinical situations quickly and use initiative
  • Ability to interpret research and apply to practice
  • Knowledge of counselling skills, group skills, cognitive skills, behavioural skills
  • Skills in CBT, Coaching
  • Research and audit skills
  • Report writing skills
