Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Bariatric Dietitian to join our multidisciplinary team at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing expert dietetic advice and support to patients undergoing bariatric surgery.

Main Responsibilities

• Coordinating the dietetic team to provide an efficient and high-quality service to obese patients considering and undergoing bariatric surgery at Homerton Hospital

• Representing the bariatric dietitians at operational level and leading on dietetic service development aligned with strategic priorities

• Managing a highly specialized clinical caseload, including inpatients and complex outpatients requiring assessment, diagnosis, management, and treatment within this specialty

• Coordinating the team to provide a regular service for bariatric surgery patients pre and post-operatively in the form of regular outpatient clinics, groups, and inpatient cover

• Coordinating individual patient care by providing the link between a range of healthcare and social care professionals as required to ensure a smooth pathway through the service

Person Specification

• Degree in Dietetics or equivalent

• Demonstrable knowledge equivalent to Master's Degree Level

• Advanced study in relevant field, for example, Behaviour Change Training

• Member of relevant Specialist Interest Groups, BOMSS

• Masters in leadership or management

• Member of the British Dietetic Association

• Able to manage difficult and complex situations calmly and logically

• Able to supervise, appraise, and guide junior staff

• Able to provide clear and effective treatment regimens and advice for patients in their area of work, including complex clinical dietetic problems

• Able to contribute effectively to MDTs

• Project management skills

• Extensive postgraduate clinical dietetic experience, with experience in the field of bariatric surgery and obesity management

• Experience in the management of surgical/critically ill patients, including enteral and parenteral nutrition

• Involvement in the training of student Dietitians

• Audit and/or research experience

• Experience of line management and supervision

• Health inequalities, including weight-based stigma and bias, and the social determinants of health

• Excellent understanding of the key national policies, procedures, and recommendations for nutrition in bariatric and obesity

• Knowledge of bariatric surgical procedures and post-operative management

• Dietetic needs of patients from different ethnic and religious backgrounds
