About Us

At Place2Be, we are dedicated to improving the emotional wellbeing of children and young people, families, teachers and school staff. As a leading children's mental health charity, we provide in-school support and expert professional development to ensure that every child has access to the support they need.

We currently work with over 500 UK primary and secondary schools, supporting a school community of around 243,000 children and young people. Our teams provide a range of services in our partner schools to build resilience early in life through counselling, creative work and play.

As a counsellor on placement with us, you will have the opportunity to work with children and young people aged 4-18 in a therapeutic capacity. You will provide one-to-one counselling sessions, which are accepted as clinical hours towards professional accreditation.

We offer a comprehensive induction programme and regular supervision to ensure that you receive the support and guidance you need throughout your placement. You will also have the opportunity to attend up to six optional workshops throughout the year, which are recognised as continuing professional development time.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will be a fully qualified Counsellor, Therapist or Clinical Psychologist or studying towards one of these professions at the following levels:

  • Diploma in Counselling (Level 4 or above). If you are in your first year, you will have completed a full academic year Certificate Course in Counselling or the equivalent of 9 - 12 months.
  • Degree, MSc or MA in Counselling, Counselling Psychology or Psychotherapy - if you are in your first year, you will have relevant experience of direct work with children.

You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with children, young people, parents, carers and other professionals. You will be passionate about promoting the emotional wellbeing of children and young people and committed to delivering high-quality therapeutic services.
