Role Overview

The Aviation and Maritime Safety Engineering Senior Director will lead a small team of safety engineering specialists responsible for all engineering aspects from initial concept to introduction of service of Aviation & Maritime Safety communication systems.


Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and provide technical direction to a team of safety engineering specialists.
  • Focus on the evolution of Viasat's SwiftBroadband Safety infrastructure based on detailed understanding of new and emerging communications and surveillance requirements for Air Traffic Management.
  • Develop a deep understanding of regulatory and industry standards for safety communication systems and work closely with industry partners within the Iris consortium.
  • Represent Viasat's engineering lead in meetings with suppliers and deal expertly with authorities in similar and adjacent fields.

Day-to-Day Activities
  • Lead suppliers for implementation, verification, and organizational change of the safety infrastructure.
  • Compile system design requirements for next generation safety service developments.
  • Develop and improve the operational model for planning service introduction readiness, initial operations, and ongoing service management metrics to meet performance standards.
  • Handle the Commercial Service Introduction (CSI) of new products and services.

Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Computer or Communications science, or equivalent, and 5+ years of professional relevant experience.
  • Technically proficient in telecommunications technologies, an understanding of IP-based mobile networking technologies, and ideally satellite or mobile communications systems.
  • Strong analytical capability to conduct system engineering and technology trade-offs.

Competitive Salary

$150,000 - $200,000 per annum, depending on experience.
