Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Babcock International Group. As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for authoring, reviewing, and substantiating mechanical designs through calculations, simulations, commissioning, and diagnostic test support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Substantiation of reports/designs for installation solutions, including development/analysis and/or verification/validation of Power and Propulsion designs, Auxiliary Ship Systems, and/or HVAC system designs.
  • Preparation and production of substantiation reports for mechanical and marine solutions throughout the entire design lifecycle phases (Concept, Basic, Functional, Detail, Manufacturing, Installation, and Decommissioning), in line with recognised standards and to the required time, cost, and quality requirements.
  • Liaising with design teams and other stakeholders throughout the design lifecycle to ensure coordination and functionality of system designs, including supporting design reviews.
  • Providing solutions to manufacturing and installation issues by assisting in the resolution of technical and production queries.
  • Providing mentoring support to less experienced team members to support both their effective working and their professional development.

Requirements:

  • A high level of developed knowledge within your specialist subject area, with direct accountability for design development and determining solutions to problems and issues.
  • Demonstrable experience of using analytical engineering software such as finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, 2D and 3D CAD packages.
  • Experience in the development of Marine and Mechanical engineering systems on marine platforms (desirable).
  • Experience of contributing/leading Design Reviews.
  • Experience of working with Production Teams.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications:

  • Ideally degree qualified, but HND/HNC level qualification in an engineering discipline with extensive experience in a relevant field will be considered.
  • You will be a member of a relevant institution (e.g., RINA, IET, IMechE, IMarEst etc.) and hold Chartered status (or have a clear route through to chartership).

Security Clearance:

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
