Senior Design Engineer

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Babcock International Group. As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and development of mechanical systems for our marine platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Author and review mechanical designs through calculations, simulations, commissioning, and diagnostic test support.
- Contribute to and lead product development throughout the design lifecycle, providing technical support to our key customers.
- Substantiate reports and designs for installation solutions, including development, analysis, and verification/validation of Power and Propulsion designs, Auxiliary Ship Systems, and HVAC system designs.
- Prepare and produce substantiation reports for mechanical and marine solutions throughout the entire design lifecycle phases.
- Liaise with design teams and other stakeholders to ensure coordination and functionality of system designs.
- Provide solutions to manufacturing and installation issues by assisting in the resolution of technical and production queries.
- Provide mentoring support to less experienced team members to support their effective working and professional development.
Requirements
- A high level of developed knowledge within your specialist subject area.
- Demonstrable experience of using analytical engineering software such as finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, 2D and 3D CAD packages.
- Experience in the development of Marine and Mechanical engineering systems on marine platforms.
- Experience of contributing/leading Design Reviews.
- Experience of working with Production Teams.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications
- Ideally degree qualified but HND/HNC level qualification in an engineering discipline with extensive experience in a relevant field will be considered.
- You will be a member of a relevant institution (e.g., RINA, IET, IMechE, IMarEst etc.) and hold Chartered status (or have a clear route through to chartership).
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
