About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Babcock International Group. As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and development of mechanical systems for our marine platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Author and review mechanical designs through calculations, simulations, commissioning, and diagnostic test support.
  • Contribute to and lead product development throughout the design lifecycle, providing technical support to our key customers.
  • Substantiate reports and designs for installation solutions, including development, analysis, and verification/validation of Power and Propulsion designs, Auxiliary Ship Systems, and HVAC system designs.
  • Prepare and produce substantiation reports for mechanical and marine solutions throughout the design lifecycle phases.
  • Liaise with design teams and other stakeholders to ensure coordination and functionality of system designs.
  • Provide solutions to manufacturing and installation issues by assisting in the resolution of technical and production queries.
  • Provide mentoring support to less experienced team members to support their effective working and professional development.

Requirements

  • A high level of developed knowledge within your specialist subject area.
  • Demonstrable experience of using analytical engineering software such as finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics, 2D and 3D CAD packages.
  • Experience in the development of Marine and Mechanical engineering systems on marine platforms.
  • Experience of contributing/leading Design Reviews.
  • Experience of working with Production Teams.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Ideally degree qualified, but HND/HNC level qualification in an engineering discipline with extensive experience in a relevant field will be considered.
  • You will be a member of a relevant institution and hold Chartered status (or have a clear route through to chartership).

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
