About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Publications Lead Neuro to join our Scientific Communications team. As a key contributor to our scientific leadership, you will play a crucial role in advancing disease and molecule understanding to external stakeholders, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

The primary purpose of this role is to drive the publication strategy and deliverables in line with our scientific communication strategy, maximizing the value of data tailored to each audience's needs. You will also act as a publication expert, driving UCB's transparency commitment and scientific and ethical integrity in data disclosure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning and implementation of the therapeutic area/product Strategic Publication Plan (SPP) for one or more UCB products, collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team of internal and external experts.
  • Appoint Publication Planning Team (PPT) members, organize and chair PPT meetings, facilitate the development of the SPP with the PPT, assemble a Publication Steering Committee when required, and manage the implementation of the SPP in accordance with internal UCB processes/policies and external guidelines.
  • Drive the development of scientific communications and publications strategy for early pipeline assets, anticipating future development and providing grounding for future communication strategy.
  • Develop and maintain a high degree of scientific expertise in therapeutic area/product and consider therapeutic and competitor landscape in SPP development.
  • Ensure scientific integrity of published data and that publications follow good publication practice, both internal and external standards.
  • Uphold the highest professional and ethical standards, adhering to relevant international codes of practice while maximizing the value of information.
  • Critically review publications to ensure they are published to the highest standards and that all authors and/or contributors comply with journal or congress guidelines.
  • Ensure that international standards for good publication practice are strictly observed and that all interpretation of data is carried out with the greatest scientific integrity.
  • Advise UCB stakeholders on good publication practice.
  • Ensure that all publications projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality metrics.
  • Develop and manage the publication budget.
  • Sources and manages appropriate external resources for generation of publications (e.g., third-party medical writing providers).
  • Define metrics for assessing impact and reach of publications to optimize education of relevant audiences.
  • Actively contribute to Sci Comms capability as part of the UCB Sci Comms Capability Building Community.
  • Aware of latest developments in publications field and keep abreast of publication guidelines and technology/new approaches.
  • Lead or participate in the creation, implementation, and maintenance of systems, procedures, and tools to ensure efficient, compliant publications.
Requirements
  • Holding a master/PhD with an ISMPP Certified Medical Publication Professional certification.
  • Good understanding of the pharmaceutical regulatory environment.
  • Personal publication record and proven ability to execute targeted data analyses.
  • Experience in publication management and/or medical writing min 3-5 years (depending on the specific role).
  • Excellent understanding of Good Publication Practice (CMPP certification preferred) and other industry-related guidelines for publications.
  • Strong scientific acumen; knowledge/experience of the assigned therapeutic area and type of population (e.g., rare diseases) is a plus.
  • Experience in clinical/non-clinical research, data analysis, interpretation, and publication/communication.
  • Experience using pharmaceutical technology solutions.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English (other languages an asset).
